ATOPIC ASTHMA/ EXTRINSIC ASTHMA
affects children and young adults with atopic history
most common type
come after allergic rhinitis, urticaria (skin reaction that causes itchy welts)/ eczema
triggered by environmental antigens
dust, pollen, animal, dander, foods, some viral infections
increase IgE (by mast cells) and eosinophilia
initiated by type I hypersensitivity reaction induced by extrinsic antigen
diagnosis
skin test, RAST
NON-ATOPIC ASTHMA/ INTRINSIC ASTHMA
affets adults with no apparent allergic diasthesis and no allergen sensitization
iniated by diverse non-immune mechanisms
stress
exercise
inhaled irritants
cold
pulmonary infections (viral)
aspirin
skin tests- negative
OCCUPATIONAL ASTHMA
stimulated by:
-fumes
-organic
-chemical dusts
-gases
-other chemicals
DRUG INDUCED ASTHMA
-aspirin
