Human Impacts on Biomes
Oceans
Changes: overfishing and depletion. Pollution from plastics, oil, climate. Mining - especially gas.
-
Arctic and Tundra
-
Changes: climate change causes melting ice and therefore rising sea levels. Polar bears. Reduction of hydroelectricity in tundra biomes. Mining.
Desert
-
Changes: climate change increasing deserts. Changes to habitat. Agriculture is possible - but high water expenditure.
Rainforest
Benefits: fresh water, use of wood materials; traditional societies; dam for hydroelectricity
Changes: deforestation which effects ecosystem and biome; reduction of species; accessing minerals in soil and mining; pollution and litter; climate change; road construction; dams
Temperate Forest
Benefits: resources, habitat, nutrients, mining.
-
Grasslands
-
Benefits: agriculture is most effective. Hunting for recreation or food. Flat land, housing, etc.
Coasts
-
Changes: litter, pollution. Overfishing. Great Barrier Reef. Agricultural runoff
