Federal Parliamentary Monarchy Constitution
Federal
: Australia is a federation of over 25 million people. It consists of 6 self-governing states and 2 self-administering territories.
Parliamentary
: has multiple branches of government, with the legislature having law-making powers and the ability to check the power of the executive branch.
Constitutional Monarchy
: a monarchy (where a king or queen is the head of the state)
Legislator
: central parliament > house of REPS > senate.
Execution
: governor general > prime minister > ministers.
Judiciary
: high court, federal courts.
Legislative Branch
: The Parliament of Australia (officially the Federal Parliament, also called the Commonwealth Parliament) is the legislative branch of the government of Australia. It consists of three elements: the Crown (represented by the Governor-General), the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Executive Branch
: The Executive branch of Australian government is the Cabinet and Ministry, led by the Prime Minister. The Executive carries out the day-to-day government and administration of the country. It proposes laws to the parliament and executes the laws passed by the parliament
Divisions of power
: The division of powers is also often referred to as the three levels of government. Federal Parliament and the state parliaments are two of the levels and the third level of government are local councils (shires and municipalities). These are administered under the law of the state that they are in.
