BIOLOGY CHAPTER: 2
Animal cell
-
SPECIALIZED CELLS:
•DESIGN FOR SPECIFIC FUNCTION
•DEVELOPED DISTINCT SHAPE IN ORDER TO PERFORM ITS DISTINCT FUNCTION
•CONTAIN CHEMICAL CHANGES TO TAKE PLACE IN THE CYTOPLASM
RBC:
HAS CYTOPLASM CONTAINING HAEMOGLOBIN TO CARRY AND TRANSPORT OXYGEN IT TRANSPORTS FROM LUNGS TO ORGAN TISSUES TO PERFORM RESPIRATION
(O2+Hb--->Complex)
SPERM CELLS:
PRODUCED BY TESTES.
•ACROSOME: TO BREAK OPEN THE EGG'S CELL WALL
•NUCLEUS: TO MAKE UP THE EGG TO MAKE A ZYGOTE
•MID PIECE: (CONTAINING MITOCHONDRIA TO HELP IN MOVEMENT)
•TAIL: TO PROVIDE IT WITH MOBILITY
-
Cytoplasm: enclosed by the cell membrane, contains the cell organelles e.g: mitochondria nucleus which is the site of chemical reactions
Cell membrane: encapsulated around the cytoplasm, prevents cell contents from escaping and control substances to enter and leave the cell. (semipermeable and allows entry of selected molecules, not elastic)
Nucleus: inside the cytoplasm, controls cell division, control cell development and controls overall select activities
Cell wall: around the plant cell, prevence plant cells from bursting and allows water and salt through. is completely permeable and elastic (controls the cells turgidity as in the pressure from inside to prevent from bursting)
a bacteria cell wall is made up of peptidoglycogen. and it helps it from being ruptured from other organisms
-
Vacuole: inside the cytoplasm of most plants cells, contains salt and sugars to keep plant cells firm
chloroplast: inside the cytoplasm of some plant cells, traps light energy for the processing of photosynthesis and produces chlorophyll
-
-
Nucleoid: is a kind of genetic material present in the cytoplasm and is not enclosed by a nuclear membrane in bacteria cells
Plasmids: circular genetic materials found in the cytoplasm mostly found in the antibiotic resistant bacteria
