Brown v Board of Education: Who's interest did it serve?, Similarities…

Pattern mentioned:
- "The interest of blacks in achieving racial equality is accommodated
only when that interest converges with the interests of whites in policy-making positions. This convergence of interests is far more important to gaining relief
than is the degree of harm suffered by blacks or the character of proof offered
to prove this harm.."
Policies only interest white policymakers when there is interest convergence. To fulfill these policies, they may "ideate" serving Black people, but often end up causing harm since there is not enough specified into the policy.
- "...even when interest convergence results in a potentially effective
racial remedy, that remedy is abrogated at the point that policymakers fear the remedial policy is threatening the superior societal status of whites,
particularly those in the middle and upper classes
Policymakers WILL NOT protect Black people from the riots and hate fueled crimes that follow the passing of controversial policy.
- "the rights of blacks are always vulnerable, subject to be sacrificed,
or used as catalysts enabling whites to settle serious policy differences."

Reliving and Learning from our Racist History gives us a surprising and chilling understanding of interest convergence, and how it happens, and what happens as a result of it. Malcolm Gladwell gives clear and heartbreaking insight to the humans who were harmed by Brown and practical insight to how integration should have been done
