Learning Objectives - Coggle Diagram
Learning Objectives
SMART
⮚ Specific – Objectives should clearly state the knowledge or skill the learners need to demonstrate because of training. Specific objectives define what needs to be done by answering the What, Why, and How questions. Even individuals without any background knowledge about the topic should be able to read the objective and interpret it correctly.
⮚Measurable. They should focus on the evaluation standards and include some type of measurement such as standards. Instructional designers should be able to evaluate this element through assessment.
⮚ Attainable – Even though your objective can be both specific and measurable, it may not be feasible during the proposed period or with the limited resources available. The attainable part of your objective is responsible for satisfying the expectation. Using action verbs such as observe, participate, demonstrate, and communicate can help represent the behavior the objective is trying to measure. For example, Participate in the local job fair
⮚ The Relevant part emphasizes the practicality of the objective and clarifies why something should be done. For example, Increase enrollment of medical students in X University over the next three months through participation in the local job fair
⮚ And, finally, objectives should be time-bound, meaning that they should identify the time when something will be done. For example – Over the next three months

• Condition,
Many times, the learner will have to perform the learning objective’s behavior within a set of given conditions.
Note: There may be times when a condition is not necessary, but always check to see if it’s appropriate to add one.

Terminal
Terminal objectives describe what the learners are expected to be able to do by the end of the course
Enabling
⮚ Enabling objectives support terminal objectives. They define the skills, knowledge, or attitudes learners must obtain to successfully complete terminal objectives. Also, enabling objectives are more specific than terminal objectives.
