Germany fell behind on payments, france and belgium forced into germany to make them pay, no germans could stop them, France tried to make them work for them
Many thought that after the strike had been called off, it was another failure, so they turned to Hitler
In 1924, the USA agreed the DAwes Plan with Germany, They would lend them 8000 million gold marks to help pay reparations and rebuild the German economy. THis helped until the Wall Street crash in 1929 nearly bankrupted america.

Hyper inflation was so bad in Germany, bread that cost 250 dm in january 1923 had risen to 200,000 million marks in november 1923. By autumn 1923, it cost more money to print the bills than what the money was worth.
After the Ruhr crisis, the government printed off banknotes to pay workers which led to Hyperinflation.
Allies had blamed the German Kaiser (king) for WW1 and he had been forced to abdicate (give up power) so many Germans felt the person responsible had been punished.
The government was very quickly hated for signing the Treaty by the population that called them the November Criminals.

The abdication of the Kaiser left Germany without a leader. A new government, the Weimar Republic, was set up but the people thought it was too weak.
A communist government was in control of Russia. Nobody knew how much of a threat this would be. Communist revolts had already attempted to overthrow the German government in 1919
In november 1923, the Nazi Party, led by Adolf Hitler tried and failed to overthrow the Munich (beer hall) Putsch. Hitler was arrested but it showed how weak and vulnerable the government was.
