A school in Mathare has been hit very hard by closure during COVID-19. Since they were forced to close, they have been unable to support teaching for their students, and staff have not been paid. The school building is rented from a landlord, and the lease is only valid for two more years. As they are behind on rent as well, the school administration is also worried about eviction from the property. The landlord has offered to sell the property to the school - for Kshs 3.5 million, which the school does not have. Other issues to keep in mind are that the building has no running water or electricity, and students in the area are dependent on this school for their primary education.
