The different characteristics of the natural environment
Lithosphere
The land appears to be muddy due to surrounding water
Flowing of the river can impact the erosion of some small plants and rocks along the bank
Consistent water supply to nearby soil due to proximity
Small insect, animal and plant species can help regulate and maintain the health of soil
Appears to consist of some catchment areas due to the shape of the basin
Dead leaves and plants add nutrients to the soil
Atmosphere
As seen in the images of the landscape near the Torrens, the vegetation along the river provides oxygen for the atmosphere
The atmosphere helps sustain smaller ecosystems near the river bank
Moderation of climate by decreasing the atmosphere’s temperature due the water in the river
Wind is also stronger due to the change in atmosphere and water vapor that is evaporated by the river
Plants absorb carbon dioxide and produce oxygen
Hydrosphere
Contributes to the water cycle
Rainfall is collected by the River Torrens
Evaporation of water from the river helps the atmosphere
Surface runoff can occur after rainfall due to the river banks
Precipitation assists the ecosystem and helps flora and fauna near the river by providing more water supply and helping plants to grow
Trees and plants slow the flow of rainwater into the river, which acts as a natural flood control
Biosphere
Many different species of plants and animals live along the river
Some animal and fish species include; pacific black ducks, wood ducks, black swans, ibis, trouts and carps
Gum trees or Eucalyptus trees can be found in the nearby landscape
Biosphere is supported by the hydrosphere, lithosphere and atmosphere
Nutrient rich soil helps growth of plants and provides food for animal species
