Retinal Detachment - Coggle Diagram
Retinal Detachment
-
pathophysiology: when subretinal fluid accumulates between the neurosensory retina and the retinal pigment epithelium
-
-
-
emergency situation
-
-
consequences: if left untreated, increase the risk of permanent vision loss in the affected eye
diagnostic test
retinal examination (use an instrument with a bright light, examine the back of eye)
-
treatment
retinal tears视网膜撕裂
PHOTOCOAGULATION (laser surgery): laser beam into eye, makes burns around the retinal tear, creating scarring - welds retinal to underlying tissue 焊上去
CRYOPEXY (freezing): apply freezing probe to the outer surface of the eye, cause scar that secure the retina to the eye wall
retinal detachment
PNEUMATIC RETINOPEXY injecting air/gas into eye : bubble pushes the area of the retina containing holes against the wall of the eye, stopping the flow of fluid behind the retina. Fluid collected can be absorbed by retina itself, so retina can adhere to the wall of eye.
SCLERAL BUCKLING 巩膜屈曲 indenting缩进 the surface of eye : sewing a piece of silicone material to the sclera, relieve some force on the retina
VITRECTOMY draining and replacing the fluid in eye : removes the vitreous along with any tissue. Air/gas is injected into the vitreous space to help flatten the retina, then air/gas will be absorbed.
prevention (lower the risk, no prevention)

causes/ risk factors
aging, previous retinal detachment, family history, previous eye surgery, previous severe eye injury, previous other eye disease
