Magnets
Loudspeaker
-
-
-
Causes speakers to move forwards and backwards, creating soundwaves
-
transformers
-
Step up and step down
Step up
-
Potential difference across secondary coil is greater than primary coil - potential difference is 'stepped up'
Step down
-
Potential difference across secondary coil is less than primary coil - potential difference is 'stepped down'
-
uses
Step up is used to increase voltage to around 400,000 v to be transmitted long distances which is good as transmitting electricity at high voltages reduces energy lost as heat
-
Motor effect
When a wire with current flowing though it is placed in a magnetic field the magnetic and conductor will experience a force - this is the motor effect
Field created by the electric current interacts with the magnetic field that the wire is placed inside
-
Motors
-
this is because the coil is flowing in the opposite direction to the current coming back down the opposing side
