DEFINITION: Formative assessments allow teachers to analyze student work, provide ongoing feedback and adjust instruction as needed.

Portfolio: A collection of ones work gathered over a period of time that shows how they have progressed.

Presentations: Students demonstrate their understanding by presenting a visual aid such as a power point.

MAP: Computerized test that measures academic progress.

STAAR: Texas' standardized test in core subjects including reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, designed to measure if students are ready for the next grade or need accelerated instruction for learning gaps.
