Assessments
Formative
Definition: A type of assessment that assess students to provide the teacher with feedback to adjust their instruction to the student's needs and gathering evidence of students learning
Examples
Exit Ticket: Giving students 2-3 questions to do at the end of a lecture on a piece of paper. Students will turn them in to teacher for the teacher to assess what the students understand or still need help.
Whiteboards: Asking students questions and having students write their answer on the whiteboard and showing the teacher. This is when the teacher will observe who is on track or still struggling.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Assessments that are used to evaluate a student's learning. It gives feedback if the student is on the right track in their learning and how well they will do for future assessments.

STAAR: The State of Texas Assessments for reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
Performance
Definition: An assessment that requires students to complete a task rather than answering questions.
Examples

Act out: Students are put into small groups, and they have to act out a play.
Summative
Examples
Evaluation project : Where a students creates something to express their overall learning on a unit that they just learned. Rubric that they will follow.
End-of-unit or chapter tests: Exams that are given at the end of a unit or chapter to asses student's overall learning.
Definition: A type of assessment that is an evaluation of students learning at the end of a unit. This provides feedback to the teachers on the students know and do not know.
Diagnostic
Definition: Is an assessment used as a pre-assessment. This assessment determines the student's strengths, weaknesses and any misconceptions the student is experiencing.
Examples
Running Record: Used for students to determine their reading level. It also shows the teacher their accuracy when it comes to reading and words they are struggling with.
Pre-Test: Could be given at the beginning of the year to show teacher's what the students know and do not know. This gives teacher's a heads up on how to help these students and what she needs to focus on in the instruction.
