Stable orbits
If the speed of the object in orbit changes, the radius also changes
If radius increases, speed decreases due to smaller gravitational attraction and vice versa
-
Sun
-
-
The outward force of gravity pulling the sun inwards is balanced by the outward force of energy released by nuclear fusion
Universe
Red shift
As an object moves away from us, its wavelength of light gets longer
-
faster the object is moving away from us, the longer its wavelength gets and the redder it appears
Light from distant galaxies is red-shifted - the further a galaxy is from earth, the greater the red shift
This means that the further away a galaxy is, the faster it's moving away from us
Big bang
-
-
-
Red shift is evidence of the big bang as it suggests the universe has expanded from a single point and continues to expand to this day
Gaps in knowledge
Dark matter
Dark matter is an unkown substance that holds galaxies together but doesn't give off electromagnetic radiation

Lifecycle of stars
- NEBULA - cloud of dust and gas
- Forces of gravity pull the dust and gas of the nebula/nebulae together to form a PROTOSTAR
