Formative
Definition: When a teacher gathers proof of the student's learning by assessing them during instruction and adjusting the instructions as needed.
Open ended question/Discussions- students will discuss as a class or in groups about the content they are learning.
KWL Chart- assesses what the students are learning in the unit. The teacher is able to use this information to change the instruction as needed.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: Evaluates where the students are in their learning. The testing is done periodically through the year, such as every 6 weeks, to check if they are on track.
Chapter Test- Students will take a chapter test to check whether they have understood the concept on the subject.

Performance
Students Portfolio- Student is applying what they learned and showing it in a portfolio, instead of through a test.
Research Paper- Students will provide information about what they have learned in the instructional unit. The research paper may require students to teach a skill they have learned.
Diagnostic
Curriculum-Based-Measurements (DIBELS)- Assess a students phonemic awareness, reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.
