Marcus Rogers Personal Reflection:
Diagnostic Assessments are very beneficial for the classroom and particularly for my classroom. Most of my students are ELL and diagnostic assessments can help me understand and plan for their English ability. Students are already required to take a mock TOEFL exam on the first day of class as part of their language diagnostics assessment. Diagnostic assessments are also important to find my students base content knowledge. I am currently teaching US history. Many of my students have little to no knowledge of US history so things that American students learn when they are very young, like 1492 and 1776, have not been taught to students raised in a different culture and education system. However, some students have studied in America and have a strong grasp on the content. Diagnostic Assessments help me to differentiate for these students so I can form stronger course content tailored to individual student's specific needs.
