NEA - souvenir from a place of interest
problems
people don't NEED most things produced in souvenir shops
every souvenir shop in one area have the same magnets, keyrings, bracelets, purses, snow globes etc...
some souvenirs can be overpriced but produced very cheaply
my first thoughts
we need to work towards creating a more sustainable and local friendly tourist experience
souvenirs could be something related to local culture
most souvenirs are quite similar, souvenirs that you find at Kennedy space center you can also find these souvenirs at the science museum in London, my souvenir needs to be interesting and original
they need to stand out from existing products
my souvenirs need to be made sustainably
we need to work towards creating a more sustainable and local friendly tourist experience
who is linked to this context?
local people
manufacturers
tourists
people travelling to a new place/country
people visiting a museum
first things that come to my mind in the production, packaging and transportation of any souvenir
problems
produced overseas possibly in sweat shops because the price is cheaper
produced at a low cost
factory workers dont get a living wage
harmful manufacturing environment for both the environment and for the workers
harmful materials used
plastic pollution
waste plastics
plastic packaging
high carbon footprint
co2 emitted when the products are made and transported to their selling location
first things that come to my mind in the production, packaging and transportation of MY souvenir
if my souvenir will be sold in foreign countries for tourists it will be produced by local people, to help support them and their families, to help battle the effects tourism has on their local areas
this means that the carbo footprint of theses souvenirs will be lowered
local people design their souvenirs, they could be linked to local traditions and culture
biodegradable packaging: cardboard, paper
if produced for museums, souvenirs can be designed specifically for the museum, therefore they will not be the same everywhere you go
can be made from recycled plastics harvested from the oceans
why is this context important to solve?
people can be informed about local cultures
is produced by recycled plastic it can teach people about the effects of harmful tourism, as 40% of marine litter is from the tourism industry
problems in different areas
storage issues
people struggle to transport them through airports if they are fragile or big and heavy
agricultural issues
resources should be responsibly farmed so vegan and vegitarians are more inclined to buy
educational issues
souvenirs should be educational about local cultures
wearable issues
shouldn't wear thin
longlisting, can be washed and re worn without discoloring
comfortable
for both females and males
things my product needs to be
inclusive to everyone
multicultural
educatioal
people need to know about the origins of the product they are buying, and how it is used in its origin country (for example: evil eyes)
needs to be wanted
easy to transport longer distances
small
light
for all ages
