Yin and Yang. The philosophy of Tao is an attempt to explain as well as understand the inherent contradictions that exist in our world. Everything is a contradiction in our world. We are born just to die. We exercise to be strong but long term makes us weak. We burn a forest to prevent a fire(at least they used to). Water nourishes plants but a flood ruins the field. The world is more aptly a series of counteracting forces. Yin and Yang are depicted as black and white yet at their heart have elements of the opposite element. Yin is depicted as dark, feminine, soft, passive, evil. Yang is depicted as light, masculine, hard, active, good. However, no matter if an item or person is yin or yang they contain elements of both. The Yin is a black half with a white center while the Yang is a white half with a black center.
