Formative
Definition:
Serves to assess the students' current understanding of their learning during a lesson. Monitoring their knowledge helps to alter or accommodate instruction to fit the students' needs best.
Exit Slip- The teacher may assign this at the end of a lesson by asking two questions for the students to answer. Or share one thing they learned and what they still have difficulty understanding.
Vote- The teacher can pose a question to the whole class about what figure reflects to be a 3D shape. Here, the students will vote based on their current knowledge.
Summative
Definition: This assessment assesses the students' retention and application of skills of a particular lesson/content developed during a period.
Unit Tests- The students are given a test that covers all the skills that were developed during the instructional time. Here, the students apply all of their knowledge they developed during how to apply their knowledge over division (word problems, division algorithms, etc.)
Final Project- The students are given the opportunity to think critically and summarize all that they have learned throughout the semester in Biology class and the connections made. Organizing, knowledge, data, presenting, etc.
Interim/Benchmark
Definition: These assessments evaluate the students' academic standing to track if they will be successful in future assessments.
STAAR- Texas Standardized test that is given to students to measure their proficiency in grade-level content.

Performance
Definition: This assessment helps the students to be participants and have a meaningful learning. Differs from regular test-questions.
Group Work Presentation- The students are given a task to present to their peers about how to use a math strategy after their collaboration time throughout the lesson.
Making a Map- Here, the students will show their learning acquired from the lesson.
Diagnostic
Definition: Teachers observe the students' weaknesses, strengths, and current misconceptions with this assessment to plan their instruction. Addressing the students' specific needs.
Running records- The teachers assess their students' current reading level. Based on the results, the teacher plans a guided reading lesson along with word work activities to support the students' specific foundational reading skills and comprehension.
Surveys- Students can rate their proficiency in a certain skill or content area. This guides the teacher to plan effectively for students.
