French History, The Ultras regained majority when a Duke was assassinated…

- - - - Allied terms on France were surprisingly mild, and Louis (unhappily) made plenty of liberal concessions to the public.
  - - - The Allies were not so generous with the Second Restoration, deciding to France, and Louis now adopted a more absolutist attitude, thanks to the help of the now popular Ultra-Royalist political faction.
        
        New elections created a more moderate Chamber of constitutional monarchists, and liberal reforms followed until 1820, when conservatives returned.
        
        The Ultras pursued anyone who had been loyal to Napoleon, creating undesired instability, so Louis dissolved the Chamber of Deputies in 1816.
      - In 1823, France invades Spain to restore the absolute monarchy of the country (Hundred Thousand Sons of Saint Louis).
        
        The Spanish defeat in the same year weakened liberals in Europe, and also satisfied the French population.
      - Louis XVIII died due to poor health in 1824. With no heirs, the throne passed to his brother Charles X.
    - - Charles was the leader of the Ultras, and thus much less tolerant to liberal ideas than his brother.
        
        He attempted to reunite Church and State, plus restore aristocratic property.
        
        Charles' policies led to a split in the Ultra super majority, creating the Radical faction and the Defectors, who were afraid of another Revolution.
