Electricity and magnetism
series circuit
In a series circuit there is one loop
the potential difference is constant throughout the circuit
potential difference is equal across each component
parallel circuit
In a parallel circuit there is more than one loop
the potential difference is constant throughout each loop
electric motor
current powers it and makes it go one way
two magnets on either side to make it spin
change the wires around it spins the other way
magnets
repell
when two magnets go way from each other
attract
when two magnets stick together
Have a North and South pole
electromagnet
magnet which you can turn on and off
Ac
alternating current
Dc
direct current
in a electromagnet it is a transverse wave
magnetic field around a magnet go from North to South
induced magnet
when another material which is not magnetic gets close to a magnetic pole and then becomes magnetic itslef
v=Ir
r-resistance
I-current
v= voltage
the higher the resistance the lower the current
lower resistance higher the current
Ohm's law states that the current is directly proportional to the voltage at constant temperature
waves
transverse wave
In a transverse wave the energy transfer is perpendicular to the motion causing it
E.g
EM spectrum
.
longitudinal
E.g
sound waves, ultrasound
In a longitudinal wave the energy transfer is parallel to the motion causing it
In a wave it only transfers energy without transferring matter
Equation of wave
V= wave speed (m/s)
V=fy
f=frequency (Hz)
y= wave length (M)
