The are has been classed as a comunity unit by the Jakarta Building agency, this signals the area is going to be improved.
Slume clearence has begun, but this has led to people living in new slums.
Jamabatan has very poor sanitation with open sewers and only public toilets available to people. Much of the water is polluted leading to diseases such as Cholera infesting them. Northwood on the other hand has little air pollution and good health.
The median income in Northwood is $86,000, on the other hand most people in Jamabatan live on $4 a day ($1460 a year if they worked the entire year).
Birmingham
The 1973 oil crisis destroyed Birmingham's industry which prior to it was focused around car industry (10,000 people employed by Dunlop).
Post war housing in Birmingham saw the replacement of 110,000 sub-stanard homes with 81,000 high rise accomdations.

Barcelona needed rebranding and regenerating due to deprivation and neglect caused by the Franco regime in Spain which saw it as a comunist hub.
Barcelona has used sport to help rebrand. They have hosted the 1992 Olympics and are now home to one of the biggest football clubs in the world.
Barcelona has used culture as part of their rebranding project as well. They are home to UNESCO world herriatage sights due to the architecture of Gaudi. La Ramabala is a creative space with restraunts and art galleiries.

Barcelona has used business to rebrand itself as a tertiary sector hub. In 2014 it was made the European Capital of Inovation and Vision 2020 aims to place the city as a hub of inovation.
