Strength - Research Support - Mary Utne (1984) - study found partners who rated their relationships as more equitable were also more satisfied with them.
Limit - Cultural differences - Collectivist (Japan) vs individualistic (UK) cultures, they may need or want different things out of their relationships.
Gender differences - Sprecher (1992) - women tend to be more disturbed when under-benefitted. They also feel more guilty when over-benefitted.
Gender differences - DeMaris (1998) - women are more focused on relationships so are more sensitive to injustices.
Equity Theory A01
It is the perceived ration of inputs and outputs. It is not a balance of rewards and costs but the balance between them, if a person puts a lot into the relationship and receives a lot, it will seem fair to them. It is an economic theory.
