Shows only the
ions
that take part in a reaction.
All salts of
potassium
,
sodium
and
ammonium
are
soluble
.
Generally metals are insoluble.
All
oxides
are insoluble except for potassium oxide, sodium oxide and calcium oxide.
All hydroxides are insoluble except for potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide and ammonia solution-alkalis.
Assigning of state symbols
Substance is soluble in water (aq)
Soluble salt in the absence of water (s)
Insoluble salt (s)
Acids and alkalis (aq)
All oxides and metals except mercury (s)
Relative Atomic Mass or Ar
Definition: The relative atomic mass of an element is the average mass of one atom of the element when compared with 1/12 mass of an atom of carbon-12.
Note: Mass No. is not equal to Ar
Relative Molecular Mass or Mr
Definition: the sum of all the relative atomic masses of the atoms in a molecule
Mole
Definition: A mole is the amount of substance which contains 6x10 to the power of 23 particles. This large number is known as Avogadro's constant.
