An international context is a diplomatic policy of making a political, material, or territorial concessions to an aggressive power in order to avoid conflict
1933-37 appeasement was adopted by leaders around Europe and allowed Hitler to rebuild Germany, to break clause in the treaty of versailles, and to trigger another war.

Australia in War

Involvement in the War
One million Australians, both men and women, served in the Second World War – 500,000 overseas. They fought in campaigns against Germany and Italy in Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa, as well as against Japan in south-east Asia and the Pacific.
Role of Women
Before the War

The government encouraged women to perform simple tasks such as pack parcels for troops, raise money, promote enlistment, knit and sew.

During the War
Between 1943 and 1944 almost 1000 people including 3000 women received compulsory orders to join the war effort
Due to prioritisation of certain industries for the war effort, women ,mainly joined manufactures for clothing, munition and food production.
Civilian nurses were crucial during the war; yet, they worked in appalling conditions for very small pay and little recognition
In 1943, the Manpower directorate implemented regulations that prevented nurses from taking higher-paid positions in defence work.
They worked under extreme pressure with injured soldiers during the war.
