Unit Lesson: Making Healthy Choices inside and outside of the classroom
Lesson 2: Advocacy
Objective:
Students will be able to explain healthy choices to their peers.
Assessment:
Informal- KWL Chart
Activity:
Students will practice talking in groups and researching healthy choices to advocate and discuss. Students will research one topic about a positive healthy choice and write down three benefits to discuss. Students will be filling out the Learned section of the KWL chart while researching and using sticky notes to write down.
Post-Assessment:
Students will be asked thumbs-up/thumbs-down questions like, "Could you explain to your peers the benefits of making healthy choices?" "What is a positive choice can you make in the classroom?" "What is a positive choice you can make with food?" "What is a positive choice you can make with your peers?"
Pre-Assessment:
Students will brainstorm what they already know about healthy choices and write down on a sticky notes and put on the KWL chart. Students will then be asked questions about what they already know about talking about healthy choices like, "What do you know about healthy choices?" "What do you think they look like?" "What makes up a healthy choice?"

HE.1.P.8.1 Encourage others to make positive positive health choices.
Lesson 3:Self Management
Assessment:
Students will research and create an informational flyer about behaviors that avoid and reduce health risks.
Activity:
Students will research and create an informational flyer about one behavior that avoids and reduces health risks. Students will participate individually and then present to the class.
Post Assessment:
Students will be asked closing questions like, "What is a behavior that can help people who are upset?" "What are three positive behaviors that you show?"
Pre Assessment:
Students will be asked questions like, "What are behaviors?" "What behaviors that we show every day?"
Objective:
Students will be able to explain and know how to choose healthy behaviors in the class and at home.
Standard:
HE.1.P.7.1 Tell about behaviors that avoid or reduce health risks.
Lesson 1: Decision Making
Objective:
Students will be able to differentiate between good and bad choices by the end of the lesson.
Standard:
HE.1.B.5.3 Explain the consequences of not following the rules and practices when making healthy and safe decisions
Assessment
: Informal- Matching scenarios with safe and healthy choices
Post-Assessment:
Students after participating in the activity will be asked questions like, "How would you feel about this choice?" "How do you think this choice would affect others/your peers?"
Pre-Assessment:
Asking students thumb-up/thumbs-down questions like, "Who knows what a good decision is?" "Do you know what a healthy decision looks like?"
Activity:
Partnering up in groups of two or three and talk through scenario cards with decisions- making sure to use words like "I would feel like ... when ... happens" and "I think this would be the best choice because..." after talking in groups, each group will present to the class of of their two scenarios and how they came to their decision."
