Stages of Lymes Disease
Stage one/ Early Disease Stage <30days
- flu like symptoms
- fever
- chills
- muscle aches
- joint pain
Stage Two / Early disseminated disease stage <3mos
- creates matrices which can attack body (heart, joints, and nerves)
- meningitis - cranial nerve palsies
- carditis
Stage Three / Late Disease Stage >3mos
- chronic inflammatory state
- swollen joints (large joints) knees are most common

When to seek medical attention:
- Bull's eye rash
- Flu like symptoms
-sometimes accompanied with joint pain and extremity weakness
Symptoms
BOLO for:
Late Symptoms
- hearing loss
- paralysis of face
- depression
- tachycardia
-Brady cardia
Early Symptoms
- rash at site
- flu like symptoms
- insomnia
Who is at an increased risk to get Lymes Disease:
- People who live in Midwestern States
- Increases risk in the summer
- Children are highest risk of contracting lymes disease

- Lymes disease is the fastest growing vector-borne disease in America
- At least 300,000 Americans get diagnosed with lymes disease every year
- Lymes disease doesn’t just come from ticks, it can come from animal and other insect bites as well.
Post-Treatment Education:
May continue to experience joint pain, fatigue, and stiffness after treatment
Prevention is key!:
- Avoid walking through high grass
- Cover skin (tuck pants, long sleeve shirts)
- Use insect spray with DEET
- Check for ticks (including pets)
Removal of Tick: remove with fine tipped tweezer and pull straight out, wash the area with soap + water/iodine scrub/rubbing alcohol, see MD for bull's eye rash and flu-like symptoms
Tips/Prevention: Avoid walking through tall grass, cover skin, use insect spray with DEET, tick checks (on yourself and pets)

- Inside belly button
- Groin
- Around waist
- Legs
- Behind knee
- Between toes
- Armpits
- Back of neck
- Hairline
- Inside and behind ears
- Any warm dark place on your body I.e skin and abdominal folds
