Original sin: Belief that everyone is born sinful and the only way to remake the world into a better place is by following God and his path for redemption
Apostolic succession: Concept where the passage of authority in regards to God’s teachings remains consistent as it is passed from the Apostles all the way to the Pope today
Canonical Gospels: Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John ; Share an outline of the life of Jesus and preach the idea of redemption through Jesus’s story ; John is distinct from the other three as it is a Mystical Gospel, not Synoptic
Mystical Gospels: Subdivision of Canonical Gospels, only John ; Has a higher focus on specific episodes of Jesus’s life, specifically on Jesus’s discourse ; Meant to allow the reader to share in a mystic union with Jesus and the Church with its emphasis on miracles such as resurrection
Synoptic Gospels: Subdivision of Canonical Gospels, only Matthew, Mark, and Luke ; All essentially tell the same stories of Jesus’s life(origin, miracles, death and resurrection) along with his teachings
Trinity: Union of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit ; Is the core concept behind God for Christians where God has taken these three forms
Council of Nicaea: First ever council of the Christian Church that was meant to address sect of Christianity called Arianism that had arisen (ended up condemning and banishing them) ; Declared the concept of the Trinity we know today by equating the Son with the Father
Crusades: Series of wars where the Christians believed it was their holy duty to fight the Islamic people for the sacred land of Jerusalem and its surrounding lands ; Meant to establish a Christian world and dominance essentially

Jesus: Son of God and sent to save mankind of their sin ; Is the messiah or savior to the Christian religion ; Executed by crucifixion and then resurrected (miracle)
Paul of Tarsus: Also known as Saint Paul the Apostle and considered one of the most important figures of Christianity ; Spread the teachings of Jesus through various modes of communication, especially letters where he preached faith in Jesus Christ for his greatness, including his death and resurrection
Marcion: Early Christian figure who compiled his own canon of Jesus that rejected the actions of God in the old testament ; Only believed the words of Saint Paul the Apostle as he believed Paul was the only true apostle of Jesus Christ
John the Baptist: Prophet and a saint who identified a messiah to come that was greater than him which was Jesus ; Considered the “forerunner of Jesus” and baptized Jesus
