CHAPTER 5 : RESEARCH DESIGN & PROPOSAL WRITING
5.1 The Research Design
1. Exploratory Research
- Undertaken when a researcher intends to explore something new.
2. Descriptive Research
- Describes something which could be a phenomenon, a current situation/the characteristics of a group of organization, people, etc.
3. Causal Research
- The researcher investigate the cause & effect relationship.
5.3 Guidelines for Preparing
Research Proposal
title of the study ( should be brief & concise)
table of content (nicely laid down table of content will really complement the research proposal)
abstract (summarizes the entire research proposal)
introduction (introduces the reader to the proposed study)
literature review (preliminary literature review)
theoretical frameworkand hypotheses (aids in the formation of the research hypothesis).
research methodology (plans in conducting the study)
contribution of research (how our study can contribute to research)
time frame (the length of time required/expected to carry out the research)
budget (breakdown of the costs that are expected to incur in conducting the research from the beginning to the end).
conclusion (end our research proposal with some final conclusions of the topic)
list of references (a listing of all the citations that were used in the preparation of the research proposal)

5.2 Unit of Analysis
the subject that is being studied in the research.
may take the form of individuals, groups of people, objects, certain department within an organization/the entire organization itself as well as culture & countries.
5.4 Managerial Implications
Convince managers/clients/committees to agree with the research plan proposed by the researcher(s) for approval
