General African history
Colonies
The first European colonies were created by the Portuguese along the coast to serve as outposts to reach India.
At this point in time, Europe lacked the military force to take over much land by force, so they created trade outposts.
The success of these colonies made them create colonies in the Middle East, most importantly Oman.
The Dutch eventually started clashing with the Portuguese, taking a few colonies and making their own in South Africa, such as the Dutch Slave Coast.
Halfway through the 17th century they settled in Cape Town, and the Dutch there would become the Boers.
Oman got its independence from the Portuguese, and then took their colonies in the East coast of Africa.
Most important of these was Zanzibar, which made for profitable slave trade.

During a civil war in the 16th, the prophet Kimpa Vita arose, believing that Jesus had been born in the Kongo.
Great Zimbabwe
Created by the Shona, descendants of the Bhantu
When the kingdom fell, power in the region went to Mutapa, which became a vassal of the Portuguese and their neighbours, the Rosvi empire.
