Caring for animals
Main problems
Wild animals
Road management to protect wildlife could be expanded upon - eg. Some kind of protective barriers to separate the road or the woods or plains next door to them
Management of waste items such as plastics and small, chokable items can be adjusted so that wildlife isnt eating or choking on them
Usage of pesticides or fertilisers that could harm wildlife - or even build up in their systems over time and bring an earlier death
Poaching of different animals are already completely banned but something else should be done to stop it - perhaps some promotional materials or product for non violence against wildlife
Domestic animals
-
Animals that face abuse can be damaged for the rest of their lives - mistrusting everyone and withering away rather than wanting to survive. Whether promotional material against animal abuse or a physical product to draw attention to its occurance/to stop it, this could be an area o study with lots to solve
-
A product for treatment of fleas or for the comfort of the cat specifically when they’ve hurt themselves - after a vets visit to make them feel overall less stressed and able to heal faster
A type of cat flap in a door but more secure or designed in a way that makes it impossible for the cat to get out during the day -
To reduce the number of domestic animals that end up with severely matted hair because of a lack of brushing. This can lead to serious health issues due to mould growing or infestations of fleas
Perhaps some kind of product to help or allow service animals to tell the difference between worktime and playtime
Animals in captivity
Animals that get depressed from being in captivity and not having a big enough enclosure - a product to lift animals spirits and mental health could be incredibly useful for the animals and the zoos
-
Something to bring awareness to the mental and physical impacts on animals when they are in captivity
Unethical treatment of animals in some zoos can be a big problem that - although not very common - needs to be solved
-
Where and when?
-
Animals at school
Lots of schools keep pets as emotional support animals or just to get the kids used to looking after animals and having responsibility of them. These are often bunnies or guinea pigs because they are easy to care for. In this area there may be problems with the children handling animals correctly as well as the animals mental state - whether they are comfortable in their environment or if they feel too alone (guinea pigs especially have needs to be with other guinea pigs or they become depressed)
For those students or teachers that have service dogs, whether it be therapy and support dogs or guide dogs for the blind, some kind of product to assist the school’s accessibility to them, to help the person learn with ease whilst having a service dog or to bring awareness to other students or teachers about why service dogs are needed etc
Initial thoughts
Kids
Introducing animals into children's education as a way for children to learn effectively by engaging in something they love - perhaps for ADHD or children with learning disabilities to engage in the lesson and relate it to something they would focus on without losing focus or getting distracted
Many children are scared of animals - even domestic ones - because they haven't been brought up around pets. Maybe a product to help with their fear of animals could be created so they can enjoy the presence of pets and animals
Adults
Support animals for mental health are often used by adults and in those cases, sometimes they may actually be incapable of looking after an animal so some product or products that make them to look after their animal in a better way so they can still receive assistance would be a great help to them
