Drought - Drought is when there is a reduced water availability in an area for a long time. Droughts occur when rain, streamflows, or grondwater are below the average levels. Meteorological is when there is less water/precipitation than normal. Agriculture - There is not enough soil moisture for crop requirements. Hydrological - is when below the lake, river, reservoir, or even ground waters are under the average levels. Socioeconomic - is when the people and economy are impacted due to the water storage. Sadly Calgary is one of the cities that a drought will happen frequently because of the temperatures. Droughts mostly occur when weather patterns change and that leads to a water cycle disruption. Drought could appear for a few reasons like snow accumulation, hot/dry weather, storage of rain, etc… A drought affects our community, health, and economy. Stressed vegetation, wetlands, wildfires, and urban forests, there would be damaged and dry landscapes, water restrictions, can impact physical or mental health, water quality concerns in like aquatic ecosystems.
