The Nature of Matter
Diffusion:
Gas particles move around randomly by colliding with the walls and each other, diffusion is when gas particles move from a high concentration to a low concentration.
Effusion:
Gas particles are very small, allowing it to travel through the smallest of openings.
Osmosis:
This is the movement of water through a semi-permeable membrane, larger substances can't make it through the membrane, so it gets left behind, this allows water filtering.
Kinetic Particle Theory:
This theory states that all matter in the universe is made up of tiny particles. These particles are in constant random motion.
Experimental Techniques
Measuring Gas:
A Gas syringe is used to measure gas. The unit of measurement for gas is the same as volume.
Measuring Volume:
Volume is measured using a glass beaker or a measuring cylinder. Volume is measured using cm3, m3, dm3, l and ml.
Measuring Mass:
Mass is measured using a balance. Kg (kilograms) and g (grams) is used as the unit of measurement for measuring mass.
