by 1894, the Slavophile and populist idea of a new Russia based on the peasants became increasingly less likely, however agrarian socialism were revived, after the great famine of 1891-92 students became massive supporters of populism. they took inspiration from the people’s will and favoured violent protests. there actions led to the assassination of the minister of eduction in 1901.
