State
'night watchman' - minimal state to preserve individual liberty
self-ownership
only role is to protect against violence, theft, and fraud

'limited to the narrow functions of force, theft, etc'
Society
anti 'social contract'; did not enforce freedom, restricts it
individual rights/freedoms are more important that societal obligations
anti 'organic society' - threat to freedom
individualism; obligations to themselves not society
Economy
opposed taxation for welfare state - form of forced labour
'illegitimate use of a state... to enrich some persons at the expense of others'
'taxations of earnings from labour is on a par with forced labour'
state should be an arbiter between private companies
