        Now multiple that by one thousand. WE ARE THE CHURCH OF MESSY AND IMPERFECT PEOPLE who are really only made clean and redeemed by a PERFECT GOD.
        
        THE BIGGER WE GET, THE MESSIER it can get
- - - - WHAT DOES THAT GROUP LOOK LIKE?
- - - - Except in their case, they wanted to appear impressive, but their actions weren’t impressive at all.
      - Instead of serving people with love like the God they professed to worship, they were mostly taking the worship for themselves.
      - Just like JHERREY, these Pharisees were covering up so their own weaknesses wouldn’t be seen.
    - - When we JUDGE OTHERS
        
        MATTHEW 7:1-5 NLT: ““Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.” - Matthew 7:1-5 NLT
        
        It’s so easy to get frustrated when others do wrong, but we ask for understanding and grace when we do wrong.
        
        It’s so easy to cast judgments on other people’s bad decisions but not recognize ours.
        
        It’s so easy to get annoyed or impatient with others, forgetting that it took us a while to learn our lessons or get it together
        
        It’s so easy to put expectations on others and judge them when they don’t fulfill them, without understanding what load they’ve been having to carry
      - When we act with SELFISH AMBITION OR VANITY
        
        PHILIPPIANS 2:3-4 NIV - “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
        
        Every once in a while, we need to do a MOTIVATION CHECK
        
        Am I doing this to be honored and loved or am I doing this to honor and love others?
        
        WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE NOT TO BE A PHARISEE?
- - - - Humble towards God
      - Humble towards others
      - Humble when we’re wrong
      - Humble when we’re right
      - Let our humility heal others.
        
        Our humility can lead to VULNERABILITY
    - - “In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!” - Philippians 2:5-8 NIV
  - - - We cannot fully serve people if we’re not coming from a place of humility. If we’re hiding in fear, covering up in shame, or suffering with pride, or if we feel the need to prove ourselves or compete with others. It’ll be difficult to look outward.
        
        EVANGELISM IN FAVOR COLLEGE
- - - - Expect a mess
      - recognize that some people need urgent care
      - Recognize that some people need help identifying what’s broken
      - Recognize that people are hurting…don’t gaslight
      - Recognize that you can’t take people to the hospital if they’re not hurting
      - Some other doctors are attending to emergencies, make yourself helpful
      - Don’t bog people down with papers and forms —- PEOPLE OVER PROCESS
  - - - Help them identify the real problem
      - There are some really difficult cases; but trying different tactics can really help (BOUNDARIES)
      - Recognize that not everyone wants to be helped
      - Recognize that controlling people DOES NOT work
      - Recognize when we’re enabling
  - - - Give people goals to aspire for
      - Go and grow together
      - Make it fun, make it sustainable, not burdensome
      - Teach people to rely on the Holy Spirit, not on you
      - Acknowledge that it’s not easy, but it can get easier
      - Don’t be overconfident
      - building oneself up isn’t just for vanity (perhaps better to say that we’re not just a gym, but we’re a training facility)
