Diagnostic

Diagnostic assessments are considered pre-assessment to determine where a student's strengths and weaknesses are. This also allows teachers to see misconceptions a student may have. Diagnostic tests help a teacher plan the way they will meet the needs of their students.
Running records- a way to assess a student’s accuracy in reading as well as identify how well the student can self-correct, and their porosity
KWL Charts= allow students to explain the information that they already know about a topic, what they would like to find out, and assess what they have learned throughout the lesson
Formative
formative assessments are a way to assess students' knowledge of the topic that is being taught. These are used by the teacher to see if any adjustments need to be made. Formative assessments are a valuable tool they have no grade value but drive instruction.
Exit slip- students can explain what they have learned in a sentence or two. Or the teacher can have one – three questions the students need to answer on the topic before moving to the next lesson.
Problem of the day- a bell ringer can be posted for the students to answer before starting the next lesson.

Performance
Performance assessments are an assessment that requires students to work through task instead of answering questions on a test.
Labs- in science students will perform lab work and explain how they are doing everything and why they are doing everything.
ACT IT OUT- Students are giving a word or a screen from a book and they are required to act out what they comprehend
Interim/Benchmark
Interim/ benchmark assessments are used to see where students are in their learning. This is used to ensure students are on track will learning to succeed in future assessments.
