Collision theory
For a reaction to take place, particles must collide and they must have the activation energy for the reaction.

You can increase the rate of reaction if you increase the frequency of the collisions or increase the energy the particles collide with

Graphs
Initially the rate of reaction is very fast because there is a large amount of reactant molecules and so there is a large amount of product being formed in a short amount of time
The line gradually becomes less steep which shows that the rate of reaction is decreasing as a result of a lot of the reactant molecules already forming product
The gradient of the line at the end is 0 which shows that the reaction has stopped as all of the reactants have reacted
