The Battle of Atlanta was a battle of the Atlanta Campaign fought during the American Civil War on July 22, 1864, just southeast of Atlanta, Georgia. Out of the 34,863 Union troops that fought in the Battle of Atlanta, 3,722 were killed, wounded, captured, or reported missing. Out of the 40, 438 Confederates, 5,500 were killed, captured, or wounded. The Union victory in the largest battle of the Atlanta Campaign led to the capture of the Confederate city.
