Evidence
Evidence
"killed the man who owned her and had subjected her to years of sexual assault, forcing her to bear two of his children....she acted in self-defense against a man who had come to her cabin to rape her again....convicted of murder and hanged (McGuire, 2018)"
From an article called, "Recy Taylor, Oprah Winfrey and the long history of black women saying #MeToo", a story about a woman who was wronged was never righted because of the injustice of the world. A 19 year old slave girl was assaulted for years which caused her to bear two of his children. this came to court because the man who owned her was killed by her when he came into her cabin to once again raped her. even though all this was true she was found guilty and was convicted of murder and hanged. this woman who was subjected to years of sexual assault was murdered because she was a slave and this will never be righted when she was wronged.
Body 1-
To Kill A Mockingbird
(Lee, 10-11) “although the culprit was crazy addie … people still looked at the radley place, unwilling to discard their initial suspicions”
in the novel, scout is talking about how even though boo is innocent the neighborhood still wont get rid of their suspicions.
(Lee 218) "Yeah, but atticus aims to defend him. That's what I don't like about it."
Another example of an innocent person being subject to injustice because of others thoughts on them. They think that black people are lesser beings so to defend them, they also begin to have an unjust opinion about him.
(Lee 267-268) "Mr. Dolphus Raymond was an evil man....oh yes, you mean why do I pretend?...
“Some folks don’t—like the way I live" "
People think that he is an evil man simply because that is what he makes himself out to be. This is not for himself but for others, so they can hate him for his way of life instead of the simple fact of not liking him because he associates with black people.
"..story did not match medical evidence or the stories of other witnesses, and he even got Ruby Bates to testify that the whole story had been made up...the jury pronounced Patterson guilty and recommended execution. (McBirney, 1931)
In the article, "Scottsboro Boys" its about nine young black men who are accused of raping and assault. While going to court they found the said injuries didn't match and got one, Ruby Bates to testify that everything was a lie but even though it was obvious that they were innocent they still were said to be guilty.
