TOPIC 35 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duty: a task or action that someone is required to perform.
Responsibility: the fact of having a duty to deal with something
or of having control over someone.
Like rights, responsibilities are written in standards, which must be obeyed. The most
important are:
✓ The Universal Declaration of Rights, which establishes that everyone has duties
to their community, where they can develop their personality freely and
completely.
✓ The limits of rights are in the respect and others freedom.
Having responsibility also means being willing to make a personal commitment to a
common task. You can better assume your responsibility only when you commit to
something or someone. Failure to comply with imposed tasks results in a sanction.
. If you want your life not to
be a burden of tasks and obligations that overwhelm you, you have the responsibility
of fostering spaces for dialogue, meeting and understanding with the people around
you to build with them true communities of life where you feel valued
✓ Responsibility tells you that your rights do not end where others begin, but that
your rights are possible to the extent that others have rights and you respect
and value those rights.
✓ Responsibility forces us to look at the consequences that our actions have on
the community to which we belong.
✓ Determine the obligations we have with ourselves and with other people.
