THAT FACE - COSTUME (izzy)
para 4
I would have izzy at first glance look naturally pretty - effortless however using costume can give a naturalistic way of showing deeper into the character of izzy
she would have light pink natural acrylic colour painted all over - having natural looking nails while them being fake allows her to appear to her class mates and boys as natural yet is still wearing fake nails showing the reality of her when looking closely - similar to her personality - sickly sweet and friendly, extroverted however once talking to her you can clearly see it is a front she is uptaining and is actually very manipulative and judgemental
she would have a platinum blonde hair with honey tones added - however it would be dyed - with no dark roots showing apart from when I would have her put her hair in a high bun further in the scene as she starts to get stressed about Alice - her hair is clearly freshly dyed, showing she has enough money for a high maintenance high to keep up appearance compared to mia
finally she would have fake eyelashes also but completely natural - not noticeable at first glaces
ALL these domestic changes firstly shows the meaning of her wealth - maintaining three different appearances that charge a lot to maintain and frequently as well as these comesmetic changes through costume allow the audience to see behind this confident and loud persona, how insecure izzy is in herself - especially around boys - this would be enhanced by slightly body language and habits constantly poking through, throughout the play
an example of this would be when Henry says 'and you respect yours. get the fuck out' she would do something like bite her hair or nails - allowing the audience for a split second see her real personality and insecurities shine through
para 3
izzy would look like she is wearing no makeup (standard theatrical panshick makeup) to show her preparedness for bed - fully representing herself to the audiecnce as a 'clean' girl
this creates to the audience at first glance an innocent young girl as we assume as people, makeup makes someone look younger
however as the scene continues - on Izzy's desk downstage left there would be two cotton buds next to a makeup remover bottle, covered in makeup, with a orange pigment - showing that as izzy walks out the door for school, she puts on a persona and someone fake - not the real her - mani[pulates everyone in her life believe that she is someone she isn't
pretending to mia as she is this some scary year above whereas to her parents and teachers she is sickly sweet and perfect, whereas to boys she is sexy and seductive as well as desirable shown by her flirty with Henry constantly throughout scene 3 flattering Henry - 'I like your shirt' and 'that's so sweet'
para 1
izzy
physically, izzy it quite petite and slim (5'3) to juxtapose her overly bossy and confident persona with a small and weakfish body type
she would look clean for the majority of the play - this scene and hospital scene (1+3) however, we see her in scene five with smudged makeup and dirty clothes after spending the night with Henry - when she slightly lets her guard down
from first glance she looks like a prim and proper girl - very private school looking - pale and clear skin - bare face - however when izzy reaches for something e.g. to put down the interrogation lamp we see a butterfly tattoo on her lower back
a butterfly tattoo on a sensual part of the body such as the lower back is commonly known as a 'tramp stamp' - it is undetectable to people see respects and is scared of - such as her parents or teachers
however it is a sign of subtle rebellion - as well as it being on the lower back - an intimate and sensual place on her body can suggest her need and desire for male attention
shown by izzy being all over Henry in scene 5 once she finally gets a boy to become physical with her - "I'm going to have a shower...honey?"
para 2
she would, in this scene be wearing a soft pink silk pyjama set with her school uniform folded neatly on her desk chair with her prefect badge facing the audience as though she is showing it off
shows a sign of wealth as well as the organisation of matching monochrome outfit as well as her clothes being laid out on her chair neatly to show her appreciation and respect for her school uniform
I would have her wear matching fluffy pink slippers wether feathers
her silk pyjamas would be innocent to teachers or adults if seen, however, would be fitted to show her body, to impress boys - even if she is in her dorm room she is constantly wanting to show herself as attractive and 'feminine' - this is also shown by her wearing a top and jeans (with the top showing her body clearly) -0 throughout the play following her theme of wanting attention this is shown constantly through the way she presents herself - making herself into a stereotypical 'pretty' girl
