Murphy and Elwood - Links to bedroom culture and that girls tend to read more fiction so learn more expressive subjects and boys read more honey books leads to more technical subjects

Gender identities and peer group pressures - students face extreme pressure to conform to gender stereotypes to be accepted by peers
Paechter - found that sport is often seen as male dominant and girls will see this as unfeminine if they do it
Dewar - When students opt for opposite domain subjects they are subject to name calling and bullying

Ethnocentric Curriculum - Black and ethnic minority students may be put off studying subjects such as English and history due to focus on white British culture
Evaluation - Globalisation has created a more multicultural curriculum with wider choice to the units that are taught
English as additional language - students may be channelled to less academic subjects due to levels of English Language
