How do robots work?
Controller processes
How robots control
The controller processes signals from the sensors and canculates the orders that it must give to the different parts of the robot
Controller boards that we will use in this unit
Micro:bit board
Arduino board
Actuators act
How robots act
Actuators are elements that execute orders hat they receive from the controller
These devices convert electrical energyto anither type of energy to operate motors, switch on lights, emitsounds, etc.
Servomotor
Buzzer
Direct current motor
LED
Sensors perceive
How robots perceive
Sensors are the elements rosponsible for perceiving the signals from the enviroment.
These devices detect physical or chemical variables and transforms them into electrical variables
Temperature sensor
Ulltrasonic distance sensor
Light sensor
PIR or motion sensor
Infrared sensor
Contact sensor
Automated mechanisms and robots
Is a device or machine that performs a specific task and whose operation cannot be changed
An automatic mechanism constantly repeats the action that it has been designed for and this cannot be changed.
A robot is a progammable automated machine that captures information about its surroundings, processes this information and act on it
A robot is reprogrammeable and reacts in different ways based on the information that it receive from its enviroment
A robot usually performs tasks to replace or extend human labour.
Uses and classification of robots
By their morphology
Mobile
Polyarticulated
Zoomorphic
Android
By their field of use
Service robots
Are domestic robots educationnal and toy robots, assistive and companion robots, etc
Medical robots
Are used in surgery, for the treatment of diseases and injuries, in prosthetics, etc
Nanorobots can be very important in this field
Industrial robots
Are uses for different types of tasks
Welding, cutting, painting, operations in nuclear pants, moving, assembly, etc
Defence, security and surveil-lance robotics
Detect and deactivate explosives, tracker robots and surveillance robots, among others
Land, sea and air robotics
The robost curenty being developed in this field include autonomous vehicles, unmanned submarines and drones
