He began to build up Germany's industry. This process is called industrialization. As he was supported by the rich , his dream became true. By 1913 , Germany was producing more steel and as much coal as Britain. They exceled in chemicals , electrical goods and many German companies dominated Europe.
In 1888 , Prince Wilhelm became Kaiser , the emperor. He was the grand son of queen Victoria and cousin to king George the fifth.
When he came to Britain , he envied the British strength as they were the largest military power , and dominated trade. They posed the largest navy that doubled it's two closest rivals added together. He dreamed of making Germany as prosperous and great as Britain

The growth of socialism.
The success of The German industry mean t that many businessman and landowners got very rich. Many were close to the Kaiser and could easily influence him. They were keen ti preserve their positions and influence.
Industrialization had many effects. Firstly , there had now been 48 towns with the population over 100,000. Additionally , 60% of the total population now lived in cities. This meat there was a growing working population in towns and cities. Especially more for cities as berlin had around 10.8 workers.
Many workers voted for the new party , the SPD. They beloved in socialism - the idea that power and wealth should equally be divided and shared amongst the people.
The SPD hoped that the Kaiser might share some of his power and allow the Reichstag to make more major decisions.
To appease them , the Kaiser introduced a pension , health insurance as well as banning child labor . However , this failed as many still voted for the SPD/
Impacts of WW1
In 1918 , the country was closes to collapse. Many people were short of food and there were surviving on turnips.
On the battle fields , Germany was close to losing too.
General Ludendorff told the Kaiser that Germany might be treated more fairly if they became more democratic , which the Kaiser reluctantly did.. This allowed the major political parties to form a government and transformed power tot he richestag.

At a place named keel , sailors refused to follow orders and fight . news of this mutany began to spread and inspired other sailors to do the same. Following this the Kaiser abdicated.
