TYPES OF FRACTURES
A fracture is a complete or partial break in a bone
CAUSES:
TRAUMATIC
car accidents, falls, direct blow
PATHOLOGICAL
osteoporosis, tumors, chronic infections
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
pain and tenderness
loss of fuction
deformity
swelling and brusing
broken skin bone protuding
crepitus
SIMPLE/CLOSED FRACTURE
fracture with intact overlying skin
OPEN/COMPOUND FRACTURE
fracture penetrates the skin (highly infectious)
TRANSVERSE FRACTURE
a fracture line that is transverse to the long axis the bone
LINEAR FRACTURE
fracture that extends parallel to the long axis of the bone
it does not displace it
OBLIQUE DISPLACED FRACTURE
fracture that is diagonal to the bone's long axis
pulled out of normal alignment
OBLIQUE NON-DISPLACED FRACTURE
fracture that is diagonal to the bone;s long axis
normal alignment
SPIRAL FRACTURE OR TORSION FRACTURE
fracture that occurs due to a rotational or twisting force
GREENSTICK FRACTURE
fracture where one side of the bone breaks
the others side bends
typically in children
COMMINUTED FRACTURE
a fracture where the bone breaks in several pieces
it must be more than 3 pieces to be classified in comminuted
