- - - - Some examples of performance assessments include projects, working on composing a few sentences in an open-ended short response, developing an analysis in an essay, conducting a laboratory investigation, curating a portfolio of student work, and completing original research.
        
        In Early Childhood, for example, it could be applied when kids are working on an interdisciplinary project where they are going to demonstrate different skills. They could build a zoo and apply knowledge from different subjects such as counting, grouping, identifying and writing animals names, identifying what living things need to survive, in order to complete the task. At the end of this project, students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge in different subjects and also work on 21st century skills such as collaboration, creativity and critical thinking.

        In Early Childhood Education, a teacher wants to introduce a new topic for math. The teacher can start with two and three digit additions. The teacher wants to know if students remember place values in order to use the HTO chart (hundreds, tens and ones) to solve the equations. The teacher could give the students a short questionnaire, asking them to identify the form that matches hundreds, tens and ones and give them some two and three digit numbers to represent in the HTO chart. By analyzing the data from this questionnaire, the teacher will know if it is necessary to review place value before stating addition.
