The Presidential Election of 1860 was the Leaving Lincoln to win the election with around 180 electoral votes, which was less than 40% of the popular vote. Once Lincoln was elected as the 16th president of the United States, the South became fearful that they were losing power in the government and that the North was going to come and take their slaves. So, before Lincoln's inauguration, South Carolina decided to secede from the Union with Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina following soon after.
