    - - -When using the equation, if the observer is going towards the source, vo is positive and the perceived frequency increases.

      - If you are standing on the ground as the supersonic aircraft passes by, there will be a short time delay and then you will hear the boom - the sonic boom
        
        Sonic booms are observed when any aircraft that is traveling faster than the speed of sound passes overhead

        The sound source is travelling at 1.4 times the speed of sound (Mach 1.4). Since the source is moving faster than the sound waves it creates, it leads the advancing wavefront.
