NUTRITIONAL
Prevention
Diet rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, fish, poultry, vegetable oils

A diet high in fibre from wholegrain cereals is linked to reduced LDL cholesterol and lowered heart disease risk
Treatment

Weightloss in patients with BMI over 25 and waist circunference above 80cm in women and 100 in men. A 10% of their weight loss is recommended to reduce cardiovascular risks

Cardiovascular exercise, low to medium intensity 3 days a week, or 30-60 minutes per day

Treatment
Patients with angina treated with calcium channel blockers may have gum overgrowth. In some cases, gum surgery may be needed.
Patients with a previous heart attack, patients with angina may want to ask their dentist if oxygen and nitroglycerin are available in case a medical emergency should arise
Periodontal treatment to avoid blood clots, heart attack and strokes. Treatment include cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque, calculus (tartar) and bacteria. It also involves the smoothing of root surfaces to prevent recurring build up and allow for reattachment of the gum tissues.
